>> Strips, Tape and Other Individual Contacts - In-Lay/Top-Lay Bimetal Strips

P&B prides itself on being one of the only suppliers to offer in-lay, on-lay (also known as top-lay), edge-lay and through-lay strips to our customers.

We have worked with many customers to convert usage from traditional Ag/Cu in-lay product to the on-lay product.  Using the on-lay process we can reduce the number of operations required and frequently offer substantial cost savings to the customer as a result.

Our multi-strip in-lay production process is ideally suited to customers who cannot move away from the traditional in-lay product but who still require an economic method of production combined with the ability to achieve a thickness of silver without a specific contact height above the strip.

The on-lay process allows us to weld the precious metal directly onto the top of the strip, and also increases the range of base metals that can be used.

More details on edge-lay and through lay can be found under the description of electron beam welding.

  Advantages:

P&B uses substantial amounts of these materials within our production for manufacture of finished assemblies for our customers.  In many cases these materials are subject to additional operation such as contact welding, automatic rivet insertion or precision stamping.  Our experience in these supplementary operations allows us to offer you the complete assembly.  By allowing P&B to supply the sub-assembly the following advantages can apply:-

Reduction in freight costs.  It is cheaper to ship parts than coils of strip.  For countries where import duty is payable, the customer avoid the cost of import duty on a percentage of material which will effectively become scrap after stamping.
Efficient process of mixed Ag alloy and base material scrap.  Such scrap generally is treated as contaminated scrap within the market.  Due to the quantities processed within P&B we have negotiated special advantageous scrap tariffs for these materials.

In many cases we have proven to customers that it can be the same cost to purchase the finished assembly as to purchase the bi-metal strip.
